Bar Height Stools

Bar height stools are a way to add charm to your bar or kitchen island.  They are growing in popularity in a number of venues and bring a modern and contemporary style to the room they reside in.  Bar height stools are not just simple seats, they have a growing number of designs and styles.

Bar stools come in different seat heights, movement and material.  Though they can be made for any counter height, they are usually in the 24 to 36 inch range.  Bar stools can remain in a stationary position or be made to swivel 360 degrees.  The materials that are used are most commonly wood or metal.  The most frequently used woods are oak, pine, or cherry.  But bar height stools can also be made of stainless steel, aluminum, or wrought iron.  They come in European and French styles and even in a Retro or 1950’s design.

Traditional bar stools are typically made without backs.  They are of a more simple design, with seats that can be fabric covered or not.  The more modern designs of bar height stools include backs and are more often referred to as bar stool chairs.  These types of chairs are more comfortable to sit on than the traditional stools.  Hence the growing popularity of the high-backed bar stools and bar stool chairs.

A more recent trend has been to incorporate ergonomic factors into a bar height stool design.  There are now features to choose from such as tilting, extra padding and cushioning, adjustable height, and foot and arm rests.

Whether it is your kitchen, living room, patio, or billiard room, bar height stools make a wonderful addition to the furniture already present. When deciding on the style of stool to purchase, look around the room it will be used in for a feel for the style, color and material that would work best.  Bar height stools tend to be an affordable purchase, so it is likely you can match the style you want with a reasonable price.
